Fry believes a healthy percentage of players released this summer will struggle to find new clubs because of financial pressures.
Fry said: “Everyone at our club including the chairman, the manager and me, warned the PFA that hundreds of their members would be out of work at the end of the season unless financial help had arrived.
“The number of players looking for new clubs next season is scary as there will be a lot of downsizing going on.
“Players will be in limbo until clubs know when we can sign them. It must be a worrying time for them.”
Here are some players who could be available in the summer and who might interest Posh. They include former Posh players signed for the club by current boss Darren Ferguson and transfer targets of the past...

5.
JOSH VICKERS: 24 year-old goalkeeper released by Lincoln City who would be a decent understudy to Christy Pym. Posh interest 5/10.

6.
IAN HENDERSON: Prolific League One goalscorer who couldn't agree terms on a new contract at Rochdale so now released. Age (35) would be a big problem for Posh. Posh interest: 4/10.

7.
CALLUM CAMPS: A free agent midfielder who has fallen out of contract at Rochdale. Posh were so keen on him last summer they offered £400k, but the player turned them down and Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said his club were no longer interested the other day. He could be bluffing though! Posh interest: 7/10.

8.
CHRISTIAN BURGESS: Centre-back expected to leave Portsmouth as out of contract at the end of the season. Darren Ferguson did sign him for Posh and he's improved considerably since he left. Would be a quality addition, but surpisingly it looks like he's heading for the Belgian second division. Posh interest: 3/10. Photo: Midlands
