Why Peterborough United star Ivan Toney’s transfer out of the club could be held up and why Posh have to sell him before they can replace him
Toney’s new representatives take over on September 1 and it’s possible the 24 year-old striker wouldn’t want any move away from London Road to take place until after that date.
That would ensure his new agents benefit financially from a transfer fee that could reach £10 million.

Hide AdFA regulations insist that only Toney’s current agent can be involved in a transfer until his contract with them expires on August 31.
Posh are keen to sell Toney before then so they can have his replacement ready to go when the new League One season kicks off, probably on September 12. They have to sell Toney before they can replace him as their number one transfer target would command a fee.
Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: “We have a target for when Ivan leaves, but there is a fee involved so the sale has to be completed before we can bring the man we want in.”
Premier League side Brighton and Championship promotion hopefuls Brentford are understood to be leading the chase for Toney who scored 26 goals in a shortened 2019-20 campaign.
Posh will soon sign a back-up goalkeeper on a free transfer.
