A perfect time then to grade the players for their performances and efforts so far this season. It’s fair to say ‘must do better’ applies to many. Players must have made five League One appearances to qualify for a grade.
Grading key: A: Outstanding, B: Very Good. C: Steady. D: Poor, E: Very disappointing.

17. KWAME POKU - A
The undoubted head boy. Top scorer and the most prolific creator of goals for others. A wizard of the dribble and his current injury is a big blow to the hopes of success. Scored the first hat-trick of his career in a 6-1 home win over Cambridge United. 10 goals and five assists in 17 appearances are impressive numbers. Photo: David Lowndes

18. JOEL RANDALL - B-
The early-season sulk was a strange affair, but his commitment has been good since he returned. A high quality player until he reaches the opposition penalty area when logic and good sense seem to desert him. Photo: Joe Dent

19. JACK SPARKES - D
An emergency left-back signing who has found the going tough for the most part. He can deliver a good set-piece, but many have missed the target. He can defend tenaciously, but he has been exposed a fair bit. Appeared in every League One game until missing out at Stockport on Friday night. Photo: Joe Dent

20. JED STEER - C-
Started as first-choice goalkeeper, but, although glaring errors were rare, he never managed to totally convince either. A new, young defence needed an experienced voice behind them and could he have done more to help them? Now recovering from injury. Photo: Joe Dent
