As Ferguson only resigned 11 months ago, the majority of the players were brought to the club by him. In fact, given Posh’s tendency to return to previous managers, there are no players in the squad that were not brought to the club by either Darren Ferguson or Grant McCann!
Below the Peterborough Telegraph takes a look at the relationships between Ferguson and the current Posh squad and how each player is likely to fair.
21. JONSON CLARKE-HARRIS
Did Fergie sign him? Yes from Bristol Rovers in summer 2020. Did he play? We all remember the impact Clarke-Harris had on promotion in 20-21 with his 31 league goals. Rumours are that the relationship between him and Ferguson deteriorated the following season though with the fitness of Clarke-Harris questioned. The now Posh skipper certainly praised the impact of McCann when he replaced Ferguson in February. Seven of his 12 goals arrived after the change of manager. Ferguson has said he bears no grudges though without naming names and Clarke-Harris will remain one of the first names on the teamsheet, probably. Photo: Joe Dent
22. JACK MARRIOTT
Did Fergie sign him? Yes from Derby in summer 2021. Did he play? Ferguson brought Marriott to the club for his second spell after Derby were not able to renew his contract. Whenever he was not injured, he was firmly in favour and it would be surprising to see Ferguson not step in and try to persuade Marriott to stay given his famous mantra of 'we'll score more goals than you.' The next few days will be telling as many clubs are apparently interested in signing a former League One Golden Boot winner. Photo: Joe Dent
