Toney’s 39 goals in 63 Football League starts starts works out as a goal every 1.61 games for the club.
The Peterborough Telegraph looked at all the club’s strikers who have scored 20 or more Football League goals for the club to work out the hottest Posh shots.
We used starting appearances and goals scored in Football League matches only and calculated a games-per-goal ratio.
Star names from successful Posh teams like Ken Charlery and Tony Adcock didn’t even make the top 20. Others who were considered weaker all-round forwards did make the list.
Dwight Gayle, widely recognised as one of the top strikers in the club’s history, didn’t qualify as he ‘only’ scored 13 goals in his 27 appearances at a goal every 2.07 games which would have placed him 12th in our list.
Toney’s lofty ranking would come as no surprise to Posh manager Darren Ferguson who rates the 24 year-old highly. Ferguson said: “I’m lucky enough to have managed some outstanding strikers at this club and Ivan is as good as any of them. He’s more than just a goalscorer as his physicality and quality helps create goals for others.
“Ivan is also a terrific defender at set-pieces. One of the best I’ve managed.”
Club record signing Mo Eisa has 14 goals in 27 Posh starts (a goal every 1.93 starts).
The top 20 in reverse order are...

5.
16th. CONOR WASHINGTON. Posh years: 2013-16. Posh starts: 64. Posh goals: 27. GPG ratio: 2.37. Washington was in the form of his life with 13 goals in 14 games when Posh accepted a £2.5 million bid from QPR in January, 2016. He left and a promising Posh push for promotion under Graham Westley went with him. Washington had an unsuccessful trial at Posh when a St Ives player, but eventually moved to London Road from Newport County. Photo: Midlands

6.
15th. DENNIS EMERY. Posh years: 1960-63. Posh starts: 68. Posh goals: 29. GPG ratio: 2.34. If you included Midland League goals and appearances Emery would be second in this chart. His 231 club goals in 308 appearances works out at a goal every 1.33 games. Emery is often regarded as Posh’s greatest ever forward, although injury stopped him making that big an impression on the Football League.

7.
14th. ROBBIE COOKE. Posh years: 1980-83. Posh starts: 115. Posh goals: 51. GPG ratio: 2.25. Cooke moved to Posh from Grantham and quickly established himself as one of the best one-on-one finishers in the club’s history. Cooke was eerily calm in front of goal and scored in his first four Posh games. Unfortunately Cooke’s excellence couldn’t quite help Peter Morris’s side to a promotion their attacking football deserved. Photo: Midlands

13th. CRAIG MACKAIL-SMITH. Posh years: 2006-17. Posh starts: 190. Posh goals: 85. GPG ratio: 2.23 Mackail-Smithformed one half of a supreme Posh strike force with Aaron Mclean The pair became one of the most successful and dynamic partnerships in Posh history. Mackail-Smith was a willing workhorse who became a high quality finisher, scoring more than 100 Posh goals in all competitions in two spells. Photo: Midlands
