To lighten the mood what about these sales when Posh managed to persuade other clubs to pay way over the odds for certain players.
Posh came close to pulling off another remarkable deal last January when accepting a reported £2 million fee for central defender Emmanuel Fernandez. Unfortunately a player who has struggled for consistency turned the move down.

9. NICKY AJOSE - £300k from Leeds United
This former Manchester United striker, one hat-trick against Notts County aside, was a dud. Posh loaned him to five clubs in two years in an attempt to get rid until somehow Barry Fry persuaded Leeds United to pay £300k for him in 2014. Ajose started just two games for the Championship club despite signing a three-year deal before moving on again. Photo: Alan Storer

10. MARK HEELEY - £50k from Arsenal
The fee doesn't sound a lot, but it was a princely sum for Posh back in 1977 when Arsenal came calling. Posh would have doubled that fee if the teenager from Stanground had performed well at Highbury. Winger Heeley had played 17 times for Posh at the time of his departure. He managed almost as many for Arsenal before dropping down in standard again to join Northampton. Heeley who was a dynamic winger at his best quit football in 1983 aged just 23.
