But not all kick on to have particularly good careers which is a warning to those who were handed surpise opportunities in the Championship last season.
Here are the 20 youngest Posh players to represent the club at second tier level in the Football League. The list includes five who made their Championship debut last season.
13. 8th JOE NEWELL
Championship debut v Portsmouth, September 27, 2011 aged 18 years and 195 days. Posh boss Darren Ferguson called this left-side midfielder the best player he'd seen the Academy produce. 14. 7th RONNIE EDWARDS
Championship debut v Luton Town, August 7, 2021, aged 18 years and 132 days. The current darling of the Posh fans and the club's hierarchy and tipped for a big money move in the summer after just 44 first-team appearances. 15. 6th KGOSI NTLHE
Championship debut v Watford, April 21, 2012 aged 18 years and 59 days. This left-back was a Posh Academy graduate and delivered some decent displays in his 89 games for Posh. He won a full South African cap (v Brazil) while at Posh. Ntlhe has slipped down the Football League since leaving Posh in 2016 and played for Rochdale, Stevenage and Scunthorpe before moving onto Barrow. 16. 5th NATHAN KORATENG
Championship debut v Swansea City, February 27, 2010 aged 17 years 276 days. Posh boss Jim Gannon took a shine to this youth team winger and gave him three starts and a sub apperance, all while he was aged 17. Koranteng was loaned out to National League Rushden & Diamonds the following season and never played for Posh again. He also never played in the Football League again, spending the last decade drifting around non-league football clubs including St Neots Town and Tonbridge Angels. Photo: David Lowndes
