It was the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back then and League One Posh, who start their 2022-23 EFL Trophy campaign at home to Stevenage on Tuesday (7.30pm), triumphed 3-1 over League Two Chesterfield at the National Stadium in front of 35,663 fans.
On-loan forward Josh McQuoid and centre-back Shaun Brisley gave Posh an early 2-0 lead before Eoin Doyle pulled a goal back for Chesterfield early in the second-half.
Posh midfielder Joe Newell was then sent off midway through the second-half by referee Andy D’Urso after kicking out at an opponent, but a penalty from Britt Assombalonga 12 minutes from time sealed victory for a Posh side managed by Darren Ferguson.
It was a gifted Chesterfield side managed by Paul Cook who also included current Ipswich Town midfielder Sam Morsy, current Bolton manager Ian Evatt and current Leeds United centre-back Liam Cooper in their starting line-up.
Here we look at what happened to the Posh heroes from that day….

13. CRAIG ALCOCK
Alcock (pictured, second right) came on as a 72nd minute sub for Brisley. He was a steady defender, capable of playing in many positions. Posh signed him from Yeovil in July, 2011 and he made 112 appearances before leaving for Sheffield United on a free trasfer 3 years later. Subsequently played for Doncaster and Cheltenham before returning to Yeovil in February, 2019. Now 34, Alcock was last heard of in a player-coach role at Southern League club Harlow Town. 14. LLOYD ISGROVE
Isgrove came on as a 83rd minute sub for McQuoid at Wembley. The winger was on loan from Southampton at the time of the final, but he started just 3 of 11 Posh appearances, scoring once, before returning to the South coast. Since leaving Posh the now 29 year-old has played on loan at Barnsley and Portsmouth, and permanently at Barnsley and Swindon. Now with League One side Bolton Wanderers. Photo: david lowndes

15. JOE DAY
Back-up goalkeeper Day was an unused sub which was pretty much the story of his time at Posh after moving to London Road from Rushden & Diamonds on a free transfer in May, 2011. He started just 4 games in 4 years before leaving for Newport Counry where he excelled enough to get a move to Cardiff City. Went on loan from there to AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers before moving back to Newport in June 2021. He's now 32. Photo: Paul Franks

16. KGOSI NTHLE
The Academy graduate left-back was an unused sub at Wembley. Nthle made 89 Posh appearances and scored 5 goals before leaving on a free transfer to Stevenage in August, 2016. He has also played for Rochdale and Barrow and is currently in his second spell at National League side Scunthorpe United. He's still only 28. Photo: david lowndes
