He’s the 21st player in the last 23 years to score on his Posh debut so a perfect time to look back and find out what happened to others who started their careers at London Road with a goalscoring bang.
Some turned into damp squibs, but others went on to enjoy excellent careers at Posh and elsewhere.
21. LEON MCKENZIE
Striker McKenzie (pictured) was on loan from Crystal Palace when he scored on his Posh debut in August 1998 in a 3-1 Division Three win at Cardiff. He scored twice in that game. He scored nine goals in 15 games on loan at Posh before returning to Palace. Posh stumped up £25k to sign McKenzie permanently in October, 2000 and he became an all-time club great scoring another 49 goals in 103 appearances before joining Norwich City in a big money move in December 2003. He promptly scored twice on his Norwich debut, a 2-0 win at East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town. Norwich sold McKenzie to Coventry for £1 million in August, 2006 and he also played for Charlton and Northampton before retiring.
