The view from Crewe as manager predicts a great game against Peterborough United, all the info on the Railwaymen, big match odds and a flashback to when Jermaine Anderson looked a cracking prospect

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell is confident his side will give a good account of themselves against League One table-toppers Peterborough United at Gresty Road tomorrow (November 14).

Crewe have already faced five of the current six teams occupying the automatic and play-off places from their opening 10 matches.

Artell told the official Crewe website: “I read somewhere the other day that when you weigh up the opposition, if you had them at home or away and where they are in the league standings, we were judged to have had the second hardest start in the division.

“It certainly feels that way with the fixtures we have had and it will be no different when we have Peterborough this weekend, so it is another challenge and one we look forward to.

“Peterborough are a very good side and have a good, experienced manager in charge. They have been up there for the last few years and I am sure they will be challengers again.

“I am sure Darren (Ferguson) would have watched our last couple of league games and thought ‘bloody hell they have been unlucky to have lost both of them’.

I am sure it will be a good game of football. I am sure we will give a real good account of ourselves, like we have done in most of the games”

Ferguson has described Crewe as the ‘best footballing side he has seen in League One this season.’

PAST MATCHES

Posh were enjoying a purple patch under the management of Graham Westley the last time they visited Gresty Road for a League match. It was November, 2015 and Posh blew the Railwaymen away 5-1 thanks to two goals from Jermaine Anderson with Jon Taylor, Lee Angol and Conor Washington also on target. That made it five goals in four games for Anderson who sadly picked up a serious knee injury two matches later against Luton and was never the same player.

Posh: Alnwick, Smith, Elder, Bostwick, Santos, Anderson, Oztumer, Forrester, Taylor, Washington, Angol. Subs used: Fox, Beautyman, Coulibaly.

Posh have won 11 and lost eight of 25 Football League games at Crewe. Crewe last won the fixture in 2014 when Posh suffered red cards for both centre-backs Michael Bostwick and Jack Baldwin in a 1-0 defeat.

CREWE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Attacking midfielder Charlie Kirk is the standout player in the Crewe side. Like many stars before him he’s a product of the club’s famed Academy. He’s only claimed oneLeague One goal though, two fewer than top scorer Mikael Mandron, a burly centre forward who was a summer signing from Gillingham.

Rumour has it Steve Evans tried to sign Mandron for Posh.

Set piece specialist Harry Pickering has scored twice for Crewe this season,

Goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen is the son of Bolton’s old Finnish number one Jussi.

Midfielder Luke Murphy is in his second spell at Crewe. Posh tried to sign him at the end of his first stint at Gresty Road, but the player inexplicably chose Leeds United instead. He moved to Elland Road for £1 million.

CREWE FORM

Crewe’s performances have not gained the results they have deserved this season. Before winning at Bolton in the first round of the FA Cup last weekend Crewe had lost three League One matches in a row, all 1-0 to Lincoln, Ipswich and Gillingham.

Crewe have won three of 11 League One matches so far against Wigan, MK Dons and, most impressively, at Doncaster.

BIG MATCH ODDS

Posh are 23/20 favourites to win tomorrow while Crewe can be backed at 21/10. It’s 11/5 the draw.
