Posh have re-signed players but are yet to move in the transfer market, as the players returned to training yesterday (June 24).
With the announcement that club captain Mark Beevers has signed a new three-year contract at the Weston Homes Stadium this week, Posh’s tally of promotion winners tied down to new deals has reached seven.
Beevers joins Christy Pym, Dan Butler, Frankie Kent, Nathan Thompson, Ronnie Edwards and Ricky-Jade Jones in committing to the club for next season’s foray into the Championship and beyond but they are yet to be joined by any new faces; the key word for Posh fans this summer has been patience.
As co-owner Darragh MacAnthony said in a playful Instagram message: “Dont stress, trust El President, all is coming. I know we are all desperate for signings but you can’t rush the process. We’re going to have a great season in the Championship, we’re going to attack that bad boy. I am working hard, don’t you worry about that.”
While the club are working hard to capture their targets, their divisional rivals have been doing the exact same and have got a number of those deals over the line.
Below are some of the key deals already done by Posh’s potential rivals this season.

5. George Moncur, 27, attacking midfielder, Hull, free transfer from Luton
Hull’s new man was once a favourite among Posh fans. His 15-game loan spell from Barnsley in 2016 left Posh fans wanting more but they were disappointed to see him return to the Tykes in January and when he did head back out on loan to League One the following season, it was in the orange of Luton instead. He scored six in 14 games to get the Hatters promoted to the Championship, in an injury-hit season for him personally and struggled to force his way into Nathan Jones’ plans at the level above. Newly-promoted Hull offered the hard-working attacker an immediate return to the Championship, which he will want to grab with both hands. Verdict: Point to prove, could bring out his best. 6. Randell Williams, 24, full-back/winger, Hull, free transfer from Exeter
The League One champions pipped Posh to the title and have now got their hands on a man Posh have chased in the past. Williams has been noted for his pace and attacking-intent, which is probably what drew Posh’s eye last summer when they had a bid, believed to be in the region of £500k, accepted by the Grecians . Williams turned down that offer, however, and, after missing out on moves in January due to injury has finally got his step up. He scored four times and assisted two goals as Exeter missed out on the play-offs in League Two and pivoted between playing as a winger and wing-back. Hull will hope he is another Matt Grimes rather than Tom Nichols. Verdict: Slightly older than most to make the step-up but no reason he can’t. Photo: Harry Trump/Getty Images
7. Izzy Brown, 24, winger, Preston, free transfer from Chelsea
The ex-Hampton school boy feels as if he has been around forever but he is still only 24. He has finally left Chelsea after no less than seven loan spells in nine years at the club. It’s fair to say he has shown flashes of brilliance but has never looked at home in any of his temporary locations and hasn’t been able to find any consistency. The tricky winger has played for England Under 16 through to Under 20s but has never made more than 25 league appearances in a season. Preston are a side that operate with a small core of highly-trusted players, if he can get into that then he could finally flourish. Verdict: Needs a home, why not at Preston? I wonder if Posh were tempted to offer him a homecoming. Photo: Srdjan Stevanovic/Getty Images
8. Cameron Jerome, 34, striker, Luton, free transfer from MK Dons
This is a really interesting one. I was tempted to dismiss this out of hand as a poor signing at first but then I thought back to the match at Stadium MK in December, where he positioned himself and held up the ball well, without looking too threatening, until that split second where Ronnie Edwards made a lapse in concentration and he was onto the ball like a flash and applied a killer finish. The forward, who has Premier League experience with Birmingham, Stoke, Crystal Palace and Norwich, has never been prolific so would ideally need to play in a two, not a system Luton play regularly, which could present a problem for Nathan Jones but presumably he has a plan for that, since he signed him. Verdict: May do a job but can’t be relied upon for goals. Photo: Pete Norton/Getty Images
