Over 80% of Posh fans who responded to a Peterborough Telegraph poll said they would be pleased to see Marriott back at the Weston Homes Stadium.
But would it work out well for player and club? There are always pros, cons and gambles with any transfer and we look at the issues right here...
9.
POSITIVE: At the age of 26 Marriott should be about to peak as a goalscorer. Maybe the lack of action in the last two seasons will help as a player who runs and works for 90 minutes won't have that many miles on his body clock.
10.
POSITIVE: Despite a couple of barren seasons, Marriott's career-long scoring record isn't that bad. He's started 194 senior matches and scored 96 goals.
11.
POSITIVE: Marriott's memories of Posh are all good ones. He won the League One Golden Boot, the fans loved him and he earned a great move off the back of a spectacular scoring season. London Road is a happy place for Marriott.
12.
NEGATIVE: You don't have to look back too far to see the dangers of returning to a former club. George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Mclean all came back to Posh without threatening to repeat former glories. The success of Jonson Clarke-Harris is the exception that proves the rule.
