For every roaring success like George Boyd (£250k from Stevenage in 2007) there are a handful of flops like Tom Nichols (£300k from Exeter, 2016) and Adil Nabi (free from West Brom, 2016).
Here are the players Posh have signed on loan or permanently in January over the last 6 years and where they are now.
Posh didn’t sign a single player in January in the League One promotion season of 2020-21.
9. LEE TOMLIN
MISS! Signed on loan from Cardiff, 2019. A Posh superstar in his first spell at the club. The forward did no better than okay in his loan spell. Loan spell appearances 21, goals 2. Now player-coach at non-league Ilkeston Town. Photo: Joe Dent
10. DANIEL LAFFERTY
HIT: Signed on loan from Sheffield United, 2019. A stylish left-back who played well after Darren Ferguson came back to manage Posh. Appearances 21. Goals 0. Now at Derry City. Photo: Joe Dent
11. KYLE DEMPSEY
MISS! Signed on loan from Fleetwood, 2019. Steve Evans fancied the midfielder, but Ferguson didn't so barely played. 11 appearances. 0 goals. Now at Bolton in League One. Photo: Joe Dent
12. JOSH KNIGHT
HIT! Signed on loan from Leicester City, 2019. The centre-back/central midfielder was not an instant success, but he returned on loan the following season and made a positive impact in the Covid-interrupted campaign of 2019-20. 95 Posh appearances in total, 5 goals. Now a permament Posh player. Photo: Joe Dent
