The ex-skipper out to derail the Posh promotion push, a deadly Dons marksman, current form, latest odds and a referee from Northampton

Former Peterborough United skipper Alex Woodyard had a personal reason for choosing AFC Wimbledon over Tranmere when he was released by Posh last summer.

The 27 year-old spent the second half of last season impressing on loan at Tranmere after it became clear he no longer figured in Darren Ferguson’s Posh plans and Rovers were keen on his return.

But Woodyard chose the Dons who had taken advantage of the controversial points per game ruling to stay up in League One at Tranmere’s expense.

“I wouldn’t say I’m local to Wimbledon, but I’m not from too far away,” Woodyard said. “And my Dad Colin was actually a Wimbledon fan when I was growing up. He went to the FA Cup final and he knows a fair bit about the club.so he was pleased I came here.

“With a new stadium it’s an exciting time to be at the club and I will work hard for them. I spent enough tough years grafting in non-league football to never take a Football League place for granted.”

Steve Evans took midfielder Woodyard from Lincoln to Posh and he made 70 appearances over two seasons for the club without scoring a goal.

DONS SQUAD AND FORM

AFC Wimbledon will be well rested tomorrow after a fortnight without a game. They were last seen winning a crucial relegation battle at Wigan 3-2, one that moved them out of the relegation zone.

The Dons have a decent away record for a side fighting the drop. They have as many points on their travels (17) as Posh had before Tuesday having also won at Fleetwood, Rochdale and Swindon.

The real Dons have a clear and obvious dangerman in striker Joe Pigott. He has 13 goals from 25 League One appearances which is a strong record in a struggling side.

He scored against Posh at Plough Lane earlier this season. On-loan Brighton forward Ryan Longman also netted in that 2-1 Dons win, one of five goals he’s scored this season.

NEW BOSS

Wimbledon appointed former Academy boss Mark Robinson as first-team manager this week having sacked Glyn Hodges from the role after a home defeat to MK Dons at the end of January.

Posh are 4/6 to beat Wimbledon tomorrow with the Dons as 18/5 and the draw at 11/4, all at Sky Bet.

A repeat of last season’s 3-2 Posh win in this fixture is 22/1 with the same firm.

REFEREE

Northampton-based referee Andy Woolmer is the man in the middle tomorrow. He’s normally found in the Championship.

Woolmer was the referee who ordered two penalty retakes after Joe Lewis had twice saved spotkicks in a League One game at Millwall in 2009.

Woolmer refereed a 4-1 win for Posh at Ipswich last season.

This season he’s officated in 21 matches, issuing just one red card and 64 yellow cards.
