We’ve worked out the top 25 based on profit from transfers, longevity and how much Posh success they enjoyed.
Some big names have missed out altogether. No current players were considered, apart from one who was a roaring succes first time around.
Let us know what you think. Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony and co-owner Dr Jason Neale have offered their opinion on who represented the best value.

13. 13th: LEON MCKENZIE
Cost: £25k. Sold for: £325k. Barry Fry was doing masterful deals 20 years ago and signing striker McKenzie for £25k from Crystal Palace was a masterstroke as his goals kept Posh in the third tier until his departure for Norwich three years later. His sale fee doesn't seem that high, but it was 13 times higher than the fee Posh paid out on him.
Cost: £150k. Sold for: £1.1 million. Posh manager Keith Alexander was apparenlty asked by brash new Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony who the best player in non-league football was in October, 2006. Alexander's answer was Grays Athletic striker Mclean and the first major, huge profit-inspiring deal for a forward of the MacAnthony era was done. Mclean was brilliant in a 'Mac Attack' with Craig Mackail-Smith as back-to-back promotions were earned before the forward left for a then Posh transfer record of £1.1 million to Hull in 2010.
Cost: £70k. Sold for: £140k. The wing wizard from Watford became Posh's record signing when he pitched up at London Road in March 1989. He wasn't great in a poor team until Chris Turner turned up at the club the following year. His career, like many others, than took off as he made strong contributions to those back-to-back promotions and the club's historic rise to Division One. He was largely an unsung hero, but he scored a crucial goal in a famous play-off semi-final win at Huddersfield. Posh doubled their money on Sterling when selling him to Bristol Rovers in the summer of 1993.
Cost: £50k. Sold for £2.25m. Washington deserves a top 10 place in a Posh value list purely because of his remarkable transfer sale fee. He was in red hot form when QPR came knocking, but a £2.25 million player? Hardly. Washington, a fomer postman, was signed from Newport in 2014 and left Posh almost exactly two years later having scored 33 goals in 94 games.
