Hasselbaink made nine new signings in January as he attempts to steer them off the bottom of the League One table to safety.

Broom could make his debut in a home match against leaders Hull City tomorrow (February 6).

Hasselbaink said: “Ryan is a fantastic addition to the squad.

“He’s done really well with Cheltenham and Peterborough as well.

“He’s what we need in the attacking third in terms of energy he brings in and the creativity, and hopefully more goals as well.

“He’ll bring competition for places to the squad.”

Broom is just looking forward to playing again after being frozen out of the Posh starting line-up since December 2. The 24-year-old started just five League One matches after signing from Cheltenham Town for a reported £300k in the summer.

“I haven’t played much,” Broom told the Burton club website. “I’ve had a couple of starts here and there and lots of substitute appearances, so I’m delighted to be at Burton.

“I want to build my confidnce, play as much as possible, get some momentum back into my football and return to my best form.

“I was impressed with what the manager had to say about how he wants the team to play for the rest of the season and what my role would be in it. His plans are exciting.

“He wants to use me as a number 10 or as a right winger and that suits me.

“Obviously I was aware of the team’s position in the table, but this is an opportunity for me to come and play regularly and I couldn’t turn that down.

“There are a lot of new players here and we will bring a fresh mindset to the team.

“It’s probably been a bit doom and gloom at the club, but the new players will hopefully bring some positivity.

“The task is to win games and get out of trouble and I hope I can help make that happen.”
