Hudson caught the eye of boss Jimmy Hagan when scoring a hat-trick for Accrington Stanley against Posh in 1961.

Hudson scored on his debut against Newport County in a Third Division game and quickly formed a formidable partnership with ace striker Terry Bly.

But after scoring 26 goals in 36 games in the 1962-63 season he left abruptly and joined Bly at Coventry City. Both players had been signed by Sky Blues manager Jimmy Hill.

Hudson scored a hat-trick on his Coventry debut and went on to bag 62 goals in 113 games before moving onto Northampton in 1966.

He finished his career at Tranmere in 1969 before staring work for the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Hudson passed away on Monday (December 28) aged 83.
