Rewarding mediocrity or adding interest? Posh fans have their say on play-off changes, plus their reaction to a striker crisis

Peterborough United fans have had plenty to get their teeth into in the last couple of days.

There has been a bumper postbag on the changes to the play-off system from next season.

And there has been some nervous, but also some relaxed, reaction to the injury news re Posh striker Harry Leonard.

Incidentally a PT poll on who should replace Leonard is currently favouring JJ Morgan over Pemi Aderoju, David Kamara and Bolu Shofowoke.

On the Posh striker crisis...

It’s okay we can bring in the January reinforcements….oh wait – @GrantCatt1

Guess we'll see what Aderoju and Kamara are made of for the time being. Felt a bit like a disaster waiting to happen when selling Gustav Lindgren, that we'd come to over-rely on Harry Leonard. Hope we don't rush Harry back, though, just because we are depleted up top – @Kelansarson

I like Pemi’s aggression, his determination and commitment. However, and I’m desperate to see it, I want to see more from him. Clinical finishing is natural for some forwards regardless of age or experience. Yet to see that from him with any regularity. Time may be against him – @adi_mowles

Pemi has only averaged 16 minutes per game. Give the lad a chance – @SidDay1

JJ Morgan is a better attacking midfielder than striker, get someone like Pemi up there who can be physical and hold the ball up. The club made the best choice for Harry, we'll be fine. Just get the season done now – @SthNorfolkPosh

Assuming Matt Garbett is fit, it will be JJ at number 9 and Garbett at number 10 – @MalteezaGeeza35

Didn't Steve Castle come back a week or so after double hernia surgery? Or have i confused this with a plot from a Superman comic? – @CulpableChimp

Big chance for JJ to play up top, and Sykut in behind I reckon – @romysdad

On expanding the play-offs...

Getting to the point where we may as well do away with the 46 game league entirely and just have play-offs involving everyone. Giving the 8th best team the chance of promotion isn't adding ‘interest’, it's artificially rewarding mediocrity - @joncolman

Absolutely ridiculous. It's rewarding mediocrity. Interesting to see if they want to include similar at the bottom. Finish 6th bottom and go down – @gary_chapm9618

No-one seems to argue how to balance the playing field when it comes to parachute payments from the Premier League that have skewed the Championship. What harm does it do to hand out two extra play-off places? Apart from upset traditionalists – @LeighCurtis_DT

Any club that finishes 8th doesn’t deserve promotion (unless it’s Peterborough United) – @Peter_POSH

Totally agree especially since scrapping FA Cup replays because of fixture congestion – @kevwilson58kev

Got to say I think it is a good idea. Keeps more interest until the last ball is kicked after 46 games. The teams that finish 7/8th have a tough task to actually get promoted. This idea actually only adds 1 more game a season to the teams that finish 5-8th – @davidrbull2010

The argument is the same for any play-off system. There isn't some magic number of involved clubs where it suddenly becomes an offence against sporting integrity. Let's see how it works in the Championship and form a judgement based on that. If people want to argue for scrapping play-offs altogether, fine, but the idea that four play-off places is fine, but six is unconscionable is arbitrary nonsense – @petewass

Won’t be long before we have a relegation play-off - @Loatesy95

It allows clubs more wriggle room to get promoted without putting a club’s future into jeopardy – @AllenjaAllen

More money for Sky I guess. Same old story. A team finishing 8th shouldn’t be getting a chance of promotion – @stivesposh

Makes a mockery of a league. League attendances will suffer first half of the season – @kevincook77

It is about keeping the season alive for more clubs as deep into the season as possible, but look at this season with clubs right down to Norwich in 17th still in the play-off picture - not needed and downside could be clubs 4th to 6th having little interest in the last few games - @StephenThomasCo

All the players look shattered now, that's most teams in most leagues, so more games is only going to add to that. I's a case of money talks when it shouldn't – @MyJakedog13

Greedy that's all it is! Football gets more ruined every season. The product is poorer also – @JonMorley18

It’s one extra game for teams finishing 5, 6, 7 and 8. Is that a big deal? – @romysdad

If your club is bottom at Christmas and then has a Luke Williams type recovery in the last part of the season, it becomes a really good incentive. As long as it doesn't work for Wycombe and that team coming down from the Championship! – @Beanie1957
