Peterborough United transfer news: Pundit claims Posh ace wants to play at 'higher level'

Peterborough United fans will be eager to see Monday’s transfer deadline come and go with Siriki Dembele still at the club.

Much has been made of the uncertainty surrounding the 24-year-old’s future with Posh in recent weeks, with the player handing in a transfer request earlier this month.

A number of clubs have subsequently been alerted to Dembele’s situation, with the Peterborough Telegraph revealing earlier in the week that Premier League outfit Fulham have watched him on a number of occasions.

Speculation remains rife as the market begins to wind down, but former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell is convinced that the forward is still intent on leaving in the coming days.

He told Football Insider: “Dembele clearly wants to play at a higher level. He wants to play for a bigger club.

“It is his right to hand in a transfer request.

"He wants to better himself and move on so it will be interesting where he ends up.”

The same site reported on Monday that Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest are preparing bids for Dembele, with Celtic and Rangers both said to be keen as well.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has previously stated that he will not be “bullied” into selling his star asset, with Dembele hitting five goals and seven assists in League One already this season.

Football Insider reported last week that a bid of as little as £500,000 could be enough to tempt Posh to sell.
