Peterborough United star has been watched regularly by a Premier League club
Peterborough United star Siriki Dembele has been watched five times by Premier League side Fulham, the Peterborough Telegraph can reveal.
But the Londoners won’t be submitting a bid in the January transfer window, according to Posh director of football Barry Fry.
Fulham chief scout Brian Talbot was at Portman Road to watch Dembele in action against Ipswich on Saturday. He messaged Fry after the game which Posh won 1-0.
Fry said: “Fulham have watched Siriki five times. Brian was at the game on Saturday and he sent me a message after the game to say they wouldn’t be making an offer during the current transfer window.
“That’s not to say they won’t be back in the summer when clubs’ finances are clearer.
“There is no money about right now and certainly not enough for us to part with Siriki.
“It’s getting too late in the window now anyway. We wouldn’t have time to get a replacement.”
The transfer window will close at 11pm next Monday (11pm).
Several Championship clubs have bid for Dembele, but none have got anywhere near the Posh valuation of the 24 year-old. Cardiff and Nottingham Forest have been linked with Dembele today along with Premier League relegation certainties Sheffield United.
Dembele is expected to start for Posh against Bristol Rovers in a League One fixture at the Weston Homes Stadium tomorrow (January 26, 7pm).
