Szmodics missed Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth after picking up an ankle injury in training at the end of last week.

Posh also expected him to miss the match at Rochdale and next Tuesday’s trip to Blackpool (March 23), but the 25 year-old is recovering quicker than expected.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Sammie went in for a block tackle last Friday and opened his ankle up a bit.

“We knew he would miss the Portsmouth game, but we thought he would also miss the match at Blackpool.

“He’s actually due to train today and if he comes through that and tomorrow’s session he will be available for selection on Saturday.

“I won’t take any risks though as we still have 12 matches to go. I’d say he was 50/50 for Rochdale now.”

Posh attacker Siriki Dembele was due to sit out training today, but only as a precaution.

“He’s a bit battered and bruised,” Ferguson added. “But I expect him to be available for Saturday.”
