A Posh club record fee of £15 million has been mentioned in reports linking the 19 year-old to Spurs and Crystal Palace.
Not many players have moved straight from Posh to the top-flight of English football. Even Posh greats like David Seaman, Craig Mackail-Smith, George Boyd, Adam Drury and Ivan Toney didn’t leave London Road for the Premier League or the old Division One, although they got there in the end.
Some who did make the giant leap went on to have great careers, others sank without trace, and some are still waiting for their big chance.
It’s clear Edwards will need to choose his next move very carefully. He could even head to Germany where top clubs Borrusia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are believed to be among his suitors.

9. FLYNN CLARKE
From Posh to Norwich City, June 2021, undisclosed fee. There was disappointment at London Road when this attacking midfielder, then 18, left to join Norwich City last summer after turning down a new contract offer at Posh. Norwich were in the Premier League at the time, but suffered their traditional relegation which could improve Clarke's chances of breaking into the first-team for the first time. He's certainly enjoyed a fine season with Norwich Under 23s scoring 11 goals in 26 appearances (20 starts). Clarke scored three goals for Posh in 11 appearances (6 starts) including a rather good one in an EFL Trophy clash at Canbridge United. Photo: Joe Dent

10. ADLER NASCIMENTO
From Posh to Crystal Palace, July, 2021, undiclosed fee. Posh were angered when a 16 year-old hotshot striker turned down the chance to turn professional at London Road in favour of moving to Crystal Palace. But when details of the £250k signing on fee Portuguese national Nascimento received, the move became very understandable. Posh were only paid a tribunal fee as the forward, who had made his first-team debut as a substitute in the final game of the 2020-21 season, was under 17, the age at which a player can sign a professional contract. 11. JOHN WILE
From Posh to West Brom, December, 1970, £35k. This aggressive centre-half moved to the Hawthorns for a Posh record fee and went on to become a top player for the Baggies making over 500 appearances before finishing his career with the Vancouver Whitecaps. He then returned to Posh as player-manager for the start of the 1983-84 season but couldn't build a strong side at Division Four level and he was dismissed at the beginning of his fourth season in charge. In total Wile made 236 Posh appearances and he did steer Posh to the fifth round of the FA Cup in the 1985-86 season. Photo: David Lowndes

12. DWIGHT GAYLE
From Posh to Crystal Palace, July, 2013, £6 million. This classy striker only played 29 times for Posh, scoring 13 goals, all in the fateful Championship season of 2012-13 when his side was relegated on the final day at Crystal Palace. That didn't deter Palace, who had gone on to win promotion through the play-offs, to splash out a huge fee on Gayle, but, while goals at Championship level were always guaranteed he's struggled at the top level, at Newcastle as well as at Selhurst Park. Gayle (32) now usually sits unused on Newcastle's subs' bench. He still has a decent overall record though of 133 goals in 327 senior appearances. Photo: Alan Storer
