Posh have dropped from second to sixth in under a fortnight because of inactivity rather than a drop in form. Posh are third in the League One current form table based on the last six matches behind leaders Coventry and seventh-placed Fleetwood.

Coventry drew the battle of the top two with Rotherham at St Andrews last night (February 25), while Fleetwood conceded a 97th-minute equaliser at promotion rivals Sunderland, a goal that stopped Posh falling out of the play-off places. Former Posh striker Matt Godden scored for Coventry in a 1-1 draw, his 12th goal of the League One campaign.

Portsmouth did overtake Posh last night, moving into fifth with a 3-1 win over MK Dons at Fratton Park, while Oxford are now just a point behind Darren Ferguson’s side after completing a third victory in eight days, 3-0 over Accrington Stanley.

Only Ipswich of the promotion contenders have fallen away over the last six matches. Coventry, Rotherham and Fleetwood are all unbeaten in the last six matches. Coventry haven’t lost for 12 matches.

Seven of Posh’s last 11 fixtures are against teams currently in the bottom half of the League One table and, apart from MK Dons, all are currently in poor form.
