Peterborough United's most successful manager will not be returning to London Road following the sacking of Luke Williams

Darren Ferguson will not be returning to manage Peterborough United for a fifth time.

The most successful manager in the club’s history – he won four promotions in partnership with chairman Darragh MacAnthony – was contacted by the Peterborough Telegraph soon after the sacking of Luke Williams was confirmed on Saturday night.

We asked whether or not he would consider returning and he replied ‘no chance this time.’

Ferguson has been out of football since he was sacked by Posh 11 months again and still lives locally. He recently revealed he wanted his next job to be a sporting director-type role.

Ferguson won at least one promotion or a Wembley final in each of his four spells at Posh. He led Posh to three EFL Trophy Final successes including back-to-back wins in 2023 and 2024.
