The 23 year-old Welshman signed a three-year deal at the Weston Homes Stadium today (August 24) after moving from League Two side Cheltenham Town for an undisclosed six-figure fee.

Broom scored eight goals for a Cheltenham team who lost to Northampton Town in the League Two play-off semi-final last season. He was used predominantly in a ‘number 10’ role, but can also play as a wing-back or a wide midfielder.

“I had some success in an advanced midfield role last season,” Broom said. “I have played in a number of positions, but I’m most comfortable joining in with attacks and trying to score and create goals. I affected a lot of games last season.

Peterborough have a reputation for attacking football. They have some great forwards and I’m looking forward to creating chance for them while also chipping in with a few goals myself. That’s how a number 10 is judged.

“I heard of Peterborough’s interest a week ago and I just wanted to get it done really. The season is rapidly approaching and I want to meet my new teammates and get to know them. This is a new chapter for me to enjoy.

“It was brilliant at Cheltenham. I really enjoyed my two years there and we were unlucky not to get promoted last season.

“But I have a new challenge now and I really think Peterborough’s way of playing will suit me. The manager has made it clear where and how he wants to me to play.”

Broom will be involved in the friendly at Colchester United tomorrow evening (August 25) when Posh will play two 90-minute matches.

His first competitive game could be against his old club Cheltenham in a Carabao Cup tie at the Weston Homes Stadium on September 5.

Broom is the fifth Posh signing of the summer after Dan Gyollai, Ethan Hamilton, Ronnie Edwards and Reece Brown.

The arrival of three midfielders could lead to the departures of Louis Reed and George Cooper.
