Peterborough United winger expected to sign for Championship side Millwall

The anticipated transfer of Peterborough United winger Kyrell Lisbie to Championship side Millwall is now thought to be a done deal.

The PT reported on the potential move of Lisbie to ‘The Lions’ earlier this month and now respected national journalist Pete O’Rourke has stated on social media site X: ‘Understand Millwall are in advanced talks to sign Peterborough winger Kyrell Lisbie in a £3m deal potentially rising to £6m.’ O’Rourke has an excellent record of revealing transfer news correctly.

The news is bound to frustrate Posh fans who are already fretting over perceived squad weaknesses at centre-back and in midfield, but if the fee is correct it represents astonishing business and a very impressive profit.

Lisbie enjoyed an outstanding first season at Posh following his move last summer from National League side Braintree. He scored 14 goals in all competitions including a pair of hat-tricks, against Aston Villa Under 21s in the EFL Trophy and against Wigan Athletic in League One. Lisbie was also credited with seven assists.

Lisbie’s form tailed off towards the end of the season with Posh admitting they were forced to give him too many minutes. He appeared in 44 of the club’s 46 League One matches.

Posh handed Lisbie a new deal which runs until June 2030 before the end of last season as they braced themselves for interest in the rapid left winger, and chairman Darragh MacAnthony hinted at the 22 year-old’s potential departure during an interview with the club’s media team while at the Spanish training camp.

Millwall are known to be seeking wide players after losing in the Championship play-off semi-finals last season. Posh have recruited another left-winger in Owura Edwards from Colchester United this summer, but that signing was supposed to supplement rather than replace Lisbie. Posh have sold two unwanted wide players in Abraham Odah and Cian Hayes to League Two clubs Salford City and Rochdale respectively.
