Having seen Posh’s four preseason matches so far against Leyton Orient, Deeping Rangers, Stevenage and Barnet, I have now put together the team that I would pick on the opening day against Cheltenham based off those performances.
I am lining up in a 4-3-3 formation and assuming that there are no more signings or sales before the kick-off.
9. Joel Randall
Looks like he has come back a rejuvenated player and got off to a great start with goals in the opening two matches, including a great strike against Leyton Orient. Should be back this fit and deserves a start on the left of the front three. Photo: Joe Dent
10. Jonson Clarke-Harris
The standout player in preseason so far. Has three goals and looks extra motivated, making him almost certain to maintain the captain's armband. Looks the sharpest of the squad and will be vital to the way Posh play this season. Photo: Joe Dent
11. David Ajiboye
It's clear that Ajiboye is going to get through a lot of work last season. He has shown a willingness to use his blistering pace for both attack and defence. Has looked slightly sharper than Jones in the final third and Poku may not fully be up to speed after missing the last coupe of matches, despite looking impressive in the few minutes he has got this season. Therefore, I'd give the new signing a debut straight away. Photo: Joe Dent
12. The substitutes
There is no need to rush Jack Marriott back into the side after injury, that is still expected to keep him out for a couple of weeks. Assuming he makes it, he will be on my bench alongside Harvey Cartwright, Ronnie Edwards, Joe Tomlinson, Joe Ward, Ben Thompson and Ricky-Jade Jones. Hector Kyprianou in unlucky to miss out but there is only room for seven on the bench unfortunately, even though five can be used this season. Photo: Joe Dent
