Having seen Posh’s four preseason matches so far against Leyton Orient, Deeping Rangers, Stevenage and Barnet, I have now put together the team that I would pick on the opening day against Cheltenham based off those performances.
I am lining up in a 4-3-3 formation and assuming that there are no more signings or sales before the kick-off.
5. Nathan Thompson
Grant McCann has described Thompson's knee injury as not as bad as first feared and that is great news for Posh. Ben Mensah hasn't done enough to show he can break into the side just yet and Joe Ward is yet to fully convince that he can play as a right back, a position which McCann looks as if he has been testing him in so far. Still one of the best defenders at the club. Photo: Joe Dent
6. Jeando Fuchs
A composed figure in the midfield. Posh's most tenacious tackler and will be motivated to perform well to keep his place in the Cameroon national squad despite dropping down a division. Photo: Joe Dent
7. Jack Taylor
Posh are yet to come up against anyone who who will really look to get on the ball and take the game to Posh and as such, that has seen Taylor be able to push forward and get some shots in on goal, where I feel he is best. New signing Ben Thompson has had a bit of a disrupted build up so I would give the starting spot to Taylor on the opening day. Photo: Joe Dent
8. Sammie Szmodics
Like the rest of the midfield, yet to really find his rhythm in preseason and has missed a game but still best placed to fill the hole just behind the striker to link the midfield and the forward line. Photo: Joe Dent
