Peterborough United sweating on Taylor’s fitness and a baby boy for Posh player

Star Peterborough United midfielder Jack Taylor was having precautionary tests on a potential calf issue today (February 4).

Taylor limped out of last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Shrewsbury before half-time and although he’s felt fine and trained this week, the club want to make sure of his fitness before selecting him for Saturday’s key home match with Crewe (February 6, 3pm).

Centre-back Frankie Kent will definitely return for that match after sitting out the last two games with a concussion issue.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: “Jack seems fine. He felt a lot better on Monday than he did on Saturday and he trained for a bit on Tuesday, but we sent him off for some tests today to make sure.

“I’m hopeful he will play, but we won’t take any risks on any player. We have to trust the players to let us know they are ok, but if there is any doubt they will be taken out. It’s going to be a survival of the fittest, mentally as well as physically this season.

“Jonson CLarke-Harris and Nathan Thompson had shown signs of fatigue which is why they didn’t play 90 minutes at Tranmere on Tuesday.

“Frankie Kent looks great though. He’s looked fresh and sharp in training.”

Posh defender Dan Butler became a father this week. He and Joe Ward are expected to fill the wing-back positions on Saturday.

Ferguson added: “Dan’s partner had a boy this week so he had that on his mind, but all’s good and he looked good in training today.

“We got 90 minutes into Joe on Saturday and 45 minutes on Tuesday which was vital for him and us. I expect him to really kick on now.”
