Peterborough United striker set to receive a £25k prize as well as the League One Golden Boot prize

Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney should receive a £25k personal windfall as well as the League One Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in the third tier of English football last season, according to co-owner Darragh MacAnthony.

Toney scored 24 League One goals last term, nine more than any other third tier player.

“I lobbied the EFL on Ivan Toney’s behalf and they said they had forgotten all about the individual awards,” Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said. “Ivan gets £25k which is worth having and Christy Pym is a winner of the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets so I’d like to see him properly recognised as well.”

Toney returned to training with the rest of the first-team squad this week, but is expected to leave Posh for a multi-million pound fee this summer with reports suggesting a fee has already been agreed with a Championship club.

Pym kept 15 clean sheets in 35 League One matches last season, the most in the division.

The Premier League Golden Boot winner traditionally gets £1k for every goal scored with the prize usually donated to charity.
