Peterborough United star was a player with a point to prove and a hand in all three goals suggests he did just that

Dashing left-back Harley Mills was a man with a point to prove during the Tuesday night Carabao Cup win over Barnsley at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The 20 year-old Academy graduate was left out of the starting line-up at MK Dons at the weekend, but he was back with a bang last night. Mills will be credited with assists on both Danny Ormerod goals, but he also played a huge part in Harry Leonard’s strike with a sumptuous crossfield pass.

Mills was also one of seven successful penalty takers in a shootout Posh won 7-6.

"Two assists was a nice feeling to leave the pitch with,” Mills told the Posh Plus service. “I had a point to prove which sometimes can be a good thing and I hope there is more to come.

"I was happy with my part in the first goal and I have to thank the gaffer for that. Against Stevenage recently I tried a couple of long diagonals which went straight out of play, but the gaffer pulled me in training, told me to relax and to keep going for the passes as he believed I had the quality. It’s good to know that trying things that don’t come off will still get a clap from the manager. I have the freedom to try things.

"We work hard on set-pieces as well and it was good to see one come off for Danny’s first goal. For his second I just sent the ball into a dangerous area in the hope someone would get on the end of it and Danny did. We appear to have a thing going already!

"There wasn’t much control in the game and that makes it tough for a full-back as were always going up and down the field. It’s impossible to keep good wingers quiet for 100% of a game so I felt Lucca Mendonca did really well on the other side.

“I was confident with my penalty. I have a routine that won’t change no matter what the score is and I was confident we would win the shootout. Harrison Jones has great technique and he was seventh taker.

"I’ll always put my hand up to take one. I’d rather have a go and miss then sit back and see one of my teammates miss.

"Liverpool away would be my choice for the next round. My dad is a Liverpool and and he’s love to see me play at Anfield.”
