Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has urged his players to seize the moment as they head into two possibly season-defining League One matches.

Fourth-placed Posh will overtake third placed Ipswich Town if they beat the Tractor Boys at Portman Road tomorrow (February 1, 3pm).

Posh then host promotion-chasing Oxford United on February 8 and another win would certainly set Ferguson’s men up for a tilt at the automatic promotion places.

Posh go into tomorrow’s match on the back of a three-game winning streak and Ferguson believes confidence and momentum are vital at this stage of the season.

“We certainly have momentum back,” Ferguson stated. “I’ve seen a lot of good things in the last three matches. We will go into the game tomorrow confident, but it’s vital we maintain recent standards as these next two games are massive. “We roughly have a third of the season left and the right results in the next two matches would get us into a great position.

“It’s obviously a really tough one tomorrow. At the start of the season everyone knew we’d get two tough games against Ipswich. We almost won the first one, but they are a very good home side so we will need to be at our best again.

“Ipswich have a lot of energy in the side and whoever they select up front will give us problems. They have strong players in forward areas. They have been playing three at the back recently and they don’t give a lot away. They are bound to stay up near the top until the end of the season.

“We are looking forward to the game though. It’s a great football stadium and the atmosphere should be excellent. We will have close to 2,000 fans there and we want to make sure we give them the result and the performance they want.

“The start will be important. We’ve started the last three games very well and got in front in all of them, but Ipswich also tend to start well so we must be tight at the back, while also striving to get on the front foot.

“We’ve played with plenty of energy ourselves lately. The three January signings have been good, but so have the players coming back from injury. We’ve effectively had six new players compared to the Christmas fixtures and performances as well as results have been very good. The shape looks good and we’ve been strong physically.

“We’ve set high standard now and we know if we keep reaching them we have every chance of winning more games.”

Left-back Frazer Blake-Tracy returns to the squad tomorrow, while forward Idris Kanu could be back in time to face Oxford.
