Taylor sent a volley just wide in the early stages, but Ireland’s chances of qualifying for the finals for the first time took a severe blow.

Irelan are next in action against Iceland on November 12 and then Luxembourg on November 17 meaning Taylor is likely to miss Posh’s League One trip to Crewe on November 14.

A Posh Under 23 side drew 2-2 with QPR in a friendly today. Serhat Tasdemir fired Posh in front early in the game before Nicky Gyimah equalised late on after the visitors had sneaked in front.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson remains keen on sending Tasdemir out on loan to a League Two club.

Posh: Blackmore, Mensah, Copping, Edwards, Blake-Tracy, Clarke, Harris, Burrows, Kanu, Tasdemir, Ishola.
