Peterborough United manager urges his side to ignore the formbook ahead of clash with lowly Bristol Rovers

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has warned his players to ignore the formbook ahead of tonight’s League One clash with struggling Bristol Rovers at the Weston Homes Stadium (January 26, 7pm kick off).

Posh have won their last three League One matches to storm up to third in the table, while Rovers have lost their last five competitive games.

Three of them have been in League One matches leaving Rovers outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.

It looks like a home banker, but Ferguson is wary of such talk.

“I’m not interested in their form,” Ferguson said. “Rovers have an accomplished manager (Paul Tisdale), one who is very good tactically and who will prepare his side very well.

“They’ve played a few formations since he’s been there, although they’ve played with three centre-backs in the last couple of games.

“We are on a good run and maybe they will be wary of our form, especially our home form, but it’s dangerous for us to think like that.

“We are going well, but we scraped past Ipswich on Saturday without playing anywhere near our best. We showed good character and plenty of mental toughness, but it’s important now that we put our foot down and kick on.

“There is a lot of the season left. And all we can do at the moment is play, recover and play again. The snow disrupted our preparation yesterday, but we’ll just get on with things as we have all season.”

Posh will be without Joe Ward and Ronnie Edwards tomorrow so Ferguson could name the same side that started against Ipswich.

Ethan Hamilton’s physical and athletic approach could earn him a start ahead of Reece Brown in the centre of midfield and Harrison Burrows is pushing Dan Butler for his left wing-back slot.
