Peterborough United manager on Tasdemir future and the transfer numbers of League One clubs

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson believes attacking midfielder Serhat Tasdemir could break into his first-team squad this season.

Ferguson was hoping Tasdemir would move on loan to a League Two club before last Friday’s transfer deadline, but the 20 year-old remains at London Road.

Tasdemir sould still move to a non-league club, but Ferguson reckons that would be of no use to the player’s development.

Ferguson said: “We could still loan Serhat out to a non-league club, but I don’t think playing at National League level would help his development. He’s too good for that so I won’t be letting him leave unless he expresses a wish to drop down. So far I’ve had no indication of that.

“Ideally we wanted Serhat to have a season in League Two before coming back to us, but he can still play for us and with the number of matches we have coming up I wouldn’t rule him out.”

League One clubs made just 15 signings on deadline day .

Charlton, Blackpool and Doncaster each made two signings, while former Posh midfielder Erhun Oztumer moved from Charlton to League One rivals Bristol Rovers.

In total League One clubs made 252 signings in the summer transfer window with 50 of them moving into the third tier on loan from Premier League clubs, according to research carried out by the East Anglian Daily Times.

Only 54 transfer fees were paid including Sammie Szmodics and Jonson Clarke-Harris who both moved to Posh for close to £1 million.

Blackpool (17) made the most signings, but they currently sit next-to-bottom in League One.

Gillingham (15) and Lincoln (14) made the next highest amount of signings and it’s worked for the latter who are currently third.
