Summer signing Ryan Broom can play in numerous positions, although he has yet to cement a first-team place.

Ferguson has been delighted with the 24 year-old’s attitude though.

“Ryan hasn’t played as much as he would have liked,” Ferguson said. “But he just gets his head down and works hard. His attitude is first class and his chance will come. He’s been very good when he’s come on in games as he gives us so much energy.

“With so many midweek games this season it’s vital we have flexibility with our formations and strong cover for every position. Every player will be needed this season and I believe we have at least two good players for each position.

“When we are recruiting we try and sign players who are comfortable in more than position and system. For example Niall Mason was excellent when he came on at left-back at Wigan last night.

“We have achieved that with this squad.”
