Peterborough United manager insists the FA Cup is not a distraction and he expects a strong performance from whatever team he sends out at Oxford United

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson expects a strong, match-winning performance no matter who he sends out to play at Oxford United in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow (November 7, 3pm).

Both sides are expected to make changes to their first-choice starting line-ups with Posh set to leave out top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris. Clarke-Harris has started all 11 League One games so far this season as have defenders Dan Butler, Frankie Kent and Mark Beevers as well as goalkeeper Christy Pym. Beevers, Kent and Pym have played all 990 minutes.

Ferguson also has a decision to make in central midfield as Jack Taylor is expected to miss the next League One match at Crewe on November 14 as he likely to be the Ireland Under 21 squad.

“I’m not making 10 changes tomorrow,” Ferguson stated. “All those who haven’t been playing will definitely play in the EFL Trophy game at Cambridge next Tuesday.

“But there two or three who need to come out. Not because they are fatigued, but because their numbers are telling us they need a break.

“I will still field a strong squad and I will still expect a good performance. We built a squad where everyone could play in the first team and as long as those who play show the right attitude and mentality tomorrow it’s a game we can win.

“I’ll trust everyone I pick. We could squeeze another game out of Jack Taylor.

“It’s not the draw we wanted, but we always look forward to cup games and maybe we’ll get a better draw in the second round.

“We want a good run. We don’t believe it’s that much of a distraction.”

There are no replays in the FA Cup this season so extra time and penalties will settle the tie at the Kassam Stadium if required.
