Posh are now joint second with the Tigers behind Lincoln City after second-half goals from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Siriki Dembele secured a come-from-behind 2-1 win, a fifth in a row for Darren Ferguson’s side.

“This game just showed what we are about,” Ferguson stated. “We were nowhere near the standards we have set lately in the first=half, but we deserved to win on the back of the second-half display.

“The lads have again shown what desire and commitment they have. This is a great result at the end of a fantastic week. It doesn’t get any tougher than back-to-back away matches at Wigan and Hull.

“The players keep finding a way to win. We didn’t pass the ball well enough or quickly enough in the first-half. We didn’t create a single chance which is not like us. They didn’t create much either and the goal they scored should have been disallowed for a foul.

“I said at half-time we would see how that start of the second half went. I didn’t like what I saw so we changed formation and we gave them all sorts of problems. If you’re going to lose, at least lose having a go, so I was pleased with the way we responded after not showing up in the first half.

“Our first goal was outstanding. There were two more assists for Joe Ward and his cross for the first goal was superb.

“We played too far away from Jonson in the first-half, but when we started overloading different areas they found it hard to cope with us.

“We had to do some defending towards the end and there were some tired legs out there, but what a shift they all put in again. They ran out of ideas at the end and started just pumping long balls into the penalty area which we coped with well.

“We went on a long winning run by beating some good sides last season and we’ve done it again. We now have two home matches and we need to win them to keep our momentum going. We need to really step on the gas.”

Posh were without Sammie Szmodics today. He had a hamstring niggle which enabled Ryan Broom to start, but he was taken off early in the second half in favour of teenager Flynn Clarke as Posh changed shape to a 3-5-2 formation.

Ferguson added: “There’s something going on with Sammie’s hamstring. He felt it at Wigan. It’s nothing serious, but he’s 50-50 for Tuesday night, but I won’t take risks with so many games coming up.

“It was a tough call between Ryan and Flynn to start. Ryan is a running number 10 whereas Flynn is a passer and the game didn’t pan out to suit Ryan.”

Posh host bottom club Burton on Tuesday (October 27) before entertaining Shrewsbury next Saturday (October 31).
