“This will be our toughest test of the summer,” Ferguson said. “And that’s how we designed it. We wanted the last game to be against the best side we would face and Coventry were an excellent side last season who have strengthened their squad ahead of the Championship season.

“Most players will get 90 minutes each, but a couple might only get 45 minutes.

“After this game and training next week it’s then all guns blazing as matches will be coming thick and fast.

“We are 95% there with the squad. We have four excellent strikers, five if Ivan Toney stays, and they will all complement each other.”

Ex-Posh striker Matt Godden could be back at London Road with Coventry.
