Peterborough United legend joins Bedford Town, youngster joins Woking

Peterborough United legend Craig Mackail-Smith has joined Southern League side Bedford Town.

The 36 year-old striker was released by Stevenage in the summer and will now play in Division One Central of the Southern League where Yaxley FC will be one of his opponents.

Mackail-Smith has scored 188 goals in over 600 senior appearances. He scored 104 goals in 233 appearances for Posh, starring in the promotion campaigns of 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2010-11.

Mackail-Smith lives near Bedford and less travelling than he is used to will enable him to spend more time with his young family.

Meanwhile Posh youngster Sam Cartwright has joined National League side Woking on a short-term loan. The 20 year-old, who signed a fresh 18-month contract at the Weston Homes Stadium in January, started two EFL Trophy games for Posh last season.

The National League are due to set a start date for their 2020-21 season today (September 26).
