Peterborough United Ladies make FA Cup progress, but newly-formed Whittlesey Athletic made them sweat for the win

Peterborough United Ladies were forced to work hard before winning their extra preliminary round FA Cup tie at Whittlesey Athletic Ladies 3-1 yesterday (September 6).

Donna McGuigan’s penalty and a Hannah Pendred strike saw Posh 2-0 up at the break before Annie Posnett replied for Whittlesey with a terrific individual goal.

Both sides then hit the crossbar before Molly Orr-Love sealed the win for Posh in front of a crowd in excess of 200.

It was fine effort by a Whittlesey side who were only formed this summer and who were playing their first competitive game.

They will play in the Cambs Womens and Girls League, two divisions below Posh.

Whittlesey wore a new strip sponsored by Homme Neuveau.
