Peterborough United insist a £40k training camp was worth it

Peterborough United believe the £40k cost of a week at St George’s Park was money well spent.

Posh turned to England’s plush national training centre because Covid-19 stopped them making their regular pre-season trip to Spain or Portugal.

“It’s a great facility and it’s also great to get the players away together before the season starts,” Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony said.

“You can see the camaraderie between the players and the staff grow. Every night there was a get together. We watched football and songs were sung.

“We’ve all worked hard though. There have been plenty of training sessions, two matches and plenty of staff meetings.

“I always take this opportunity to meet the new players and any new members of staff. I have long chats with the manager about players we might sign and players we might be releasing.

“I’d liked to have gone to Scotland or Ireland, but the manager didn’t fancy a plane or a train! But we’ve come to a top facility and it’s been worth the £40k it cost.”
