Today’s (March 20) Daily Mail states Football League players should expect wage cuts or deferrals now that the whole of football has been shut down to April 30 at the earliest.

The £50 million relief fund is only thought enough to keep some clubs afloat financially for four-five weeks. If the Football League postponement continues into May, as most people believe, some clubs are likely to be forced into drastic action.

But Posh won’t be among them according to Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony who spoke to the Peterborough Telegraph today.

“I can imagine some clubs will go for wage cuts,” MacAnthony said. “At the moment it’s not something we want to do but if it goes on for a much longer period of time then course it may be sensible.”

Even big Championship clubs like Leeds and Derby could feel the finch if the haitus continues for too long, They have no parachute payments and rely on big home crowd for a large part of their income.

The EFL have no more cash reserves so this current relief fund cash injection is likely to be the last they can make.
