Peterborough United frustrated by iFollow issues, apology now received, but the club’s viewing numbers are decent

Peterborough United’s co-owners have vented their anger over the iFollow service, but the club are pleased with their own viewing figures.

The 2-0 win at Northampton on October 10 attracted the most iFollow purchases by Posh fans this season.

Posh are averaging around 2,400 customers per home game for the live match action streaming service and close to 1,500 for away matches.

That latter figure puts Posh in the top six League One clubs in terms of away game subscribers. It costs £10 to access the matchday service.

Sunderland v Posh on September 26 attracted 8,700 purchasers which at the time was the most for a League One match.

The 2-0 win at Northampton earlier this month attracted the most Posh purchasers of 1,600.

The home figures include season ticket holders who don’t pay for the service for games played at London Road.

Posh attracted a new best purchasing figure for a home game for last night’s (October 27) 2-2 draw with Burton Albion. The previous highest figure had been for the 2-0 win over Oxford United earlier in the month.

It was a disaster therefore that the Burton broadcast was bedevilled by technical issues, including a loss of picture and sound, in many cases causing uproar among fans keen to see their in-form side chase a sixth win in a row.

The EFL are in charge of a service set up to compensate for the absence of fans in stadia.

But the Posh co-owners took to Twitter last night to condemn the standard of the coverage.

Darragh MacAnthony directed his anger at the EFL stating: “You haven’t sorted a bailout from above nor a deal with the government so can you at least sort out the ridiculous iFollow service for our fans? Get your house in order & do it quickly. We are all thin on patience at the moment.”

MacAnthony subsequently promised a definitive plan and solution to the problems next week.

Posh co-owner Stewart Thompson said: “To everyone having iFollow issues, I’m on the page. Audio and video only on the phone, won’t work on the laptop and told the event ended in minute 67! iFollow isn’t even manning the support desk.

“Myself and my partners were told iFollow would be a major part of the EFL strategy for supporting fans.

“It hasn’t worked so Posh fans, give us some time along with our team to sort how we’ll solve this.

“The EFL say they’ve got the backs of the fans, but 70% of the games seem to be run by 12 year-olds with a tech manual.”

Thompson hinted at Posh taking control of match streaming themselves through their own YouTube channel.

Last night (October 28) Endeavor Streaming, the EFL’s third party streaming partner, apologised to the club and affected fans who will receive news re compensation soon.
