Peterborough United fans have their say on Fleetwood defeat: ‘Blame Fergie for a bad selection, don’t necessarily blame Eisa, but letting him take a penalty defied logic, it was always going to be tough without Ivan Toney’

Peterborough United fans were quick to point the finger of blame after a six-game Posh winning streak ended with a 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood Town yesterday (February 15).

Manager Darren Ferguson copped some flak, as did Mo Eisa for missing a penalty, but other fans preferred to stay calm after a run of 18 points from a possible 21 lifted Posh into the thick of the promotion race.

‘Bad day at the office being blown out of proportion by some. At the start of the season fans were asking if the club would miss Maddison or Toney more and clearly Toney was the correct answer, but I’ve always believed that we are minimum play-offs this season and still think that now.’

‘Negatives: all other top eight sides picked up points & now lost 10 of 33 League One games which averages to 14/15 losses in season - too many for promotion. Positives: can only drop as low as sixth by next match, and even that’s not guaranteed to happen so will still be in play offs.’

‘Only one man to blame. When we need a quality manager to tough it out, we don’t have one.’

‘Fergie 3/10 for getting it all wrong.’

@MichaelRutkosw4

‘Letting Eisa take that penalty was beyond words and any conceivable logic,”

@timdavison7

‘Toney always going to be a big miss. Fleetwood always a difficult place to go. Individual errors cost us a point. A shame, but has been a good run that’s has put us in a great place. We go again at Burton.’

‘Surprised and disappointed Brown and Bennett were dropped. Brown was missed badly in midfield and in that gale. Think Fergie tweeked the formation to accommodate Eisa, bad mistake.’

@Eddiedixon461

‘Not scoring the penalty and some lapse play for the second Fleetwood goal cost us. Been on an excellent run, but they always end at some stage. Have to win at Burton, no ifs or buts, if we want to get to the play-offs.’

@ChestneyS

‘We lost one match after a brilliant run. Eisa needed some confidence building and, yesterday, he didn’t get it. The weather was awful. We’re still POSH!’

@POSHnipper

‘Found a way to lose as all around us found a way to win. Disappointing.’

‘Every penalty looks poor when saved if the goalkeeper dives other way and he’s a bigger hero than Philip Schofield. Eisa was our top scorer on the pitch.’

@kevincook77

‘Posh should be top of the league. They have the best player by a big margin.’

@ToddAew

‘Swapping Knight for Brown is still bemusing me? Brown has been effective in controlling the midfield so can only assume Knight was selected for height but then why select Mason over Bennett? Also need to stop short, quick goal kicks altogether. We’re rubbish at them.’

@ChrisHurst2

‘A defeat is only ever a game away.

Far too many think every other player can score a penalty when one is missed.

Avoid defeat at Burton, rest and then it’s all to play for.

Far better the current position, than mid-table obscurity!’

@Fig428

‘People moaning about Eisa taking the pen and the lack of game time. He’s a striker and a penalty-taker so nothing wrong with him taking it. It was a poor pen but everyone misses a few.’
