Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony confirmed the 23 year-old was not for sale in response to an article yesterday (August 13) linking the player with Premier League clubs West Brom and Sheffield United.

MacAnthony admitted there has been interest in Dembele, but not from the two clubs mentioned in the quote-free report.

Dembele, who Posh signed from Grimsby Town in June, 2018, was in dazzling form in the second half of last season when switched to a more central attacking role.

Posh expect to receive close to £10 million for last season’s top scorer Ivan Toney this summer so would be under no financial pressure to sell anyone else.

Toney was under consideration to play for Posh against Lincoln City in a friendly tomorrow, but that match was called off by the Imps yesterday.
