First goals for the club from Nathan Thompson and Reece Brown delivered a 2-0 League One win for Posh at Northampton Town. It was a first away win, the first goals away from home and a first clean sheet for Darren Ferguson’s side this season.

“Three points job done,” Butler stated. “We had a gameplan and executed it really well in the first-half. It was a bit scrappier in the second-half, but we were very professional, made sure we didn’t concede and worked hard to get the second goal.

“Our quality shone through in the end. We knew there would be space to exploit if we carried out our instructions and particularly in the first-half the plans worked.

“It was great to get the clean sheet as well. The defence will be judged on them and we are desperate for them. We have a settled back four or five and it shows.

“We are very flexible though. We played in a four in this game and it worked well, but each game is different and the manager will have different ideas for them, We are comfortable changing formations during games as we showed against Swindon.

“It was good to back up the home wins with an away win. Momentum is massive as we proved towards the end of last season. There are a lot of games coming up so it’s vital we stay in the mix.

“We were hard done by last season, but we can’t keep saying that if we don’t do the business this season.”

Like many others Butler was impressed with what he saw from Posh man of the match Siriki Dembele.

“Siriki can change a game,” Butler added. “He’s really important to us. He gets kicked a lot, but that’s because he is so good.”
