Peterborough United could face close to 2000 miles of travelling in November but Grant McCann wants to win them all

Grant McCann is not worrying about the travelling, just winning games, as Posh could clock up close to 2000 miles in just over two weeks in November.

Posh are not scheduled to enjoy the home comforts of the Weston Homes Stadium again until Friday December 2 when they host Barnsley.

Before then though, they could potentially face five away matches if they are victorious in next week’s (November 16) FA Cup replay at Salford.

Things all start for Posh on Saturday when they make the 480-mile round trip to St James Park to face Exeter City.

They follow this up with 304 miles to Salford and back on Wednesday and a further 330 miles for the Bristol Rovers game next Saturday to make it 1,114 miles covered in just eight days.

Things don’t stop there either as the Papa John’s Trophy second round - which is drawn on Friday (November 9) live on Sky after coverage of Birmingham vs Sunderland - will likely hand Posh another away tie.

Posh legend Aaron McLean will be carrying out the draw alongside Jobi McAnuff.

As runners-up in their group, Posh will face one of the Southern Section group winners; either Plymouth, Forest Green, Colchester, Ipswich, Wimbledon, Milton Keynes or Chelsea U21.

Posh will be praying for Chelsea as the tie would revert to Posh being the home side, rather than having to trek roughly 572 miles to Home Park for a third time this season. That tie will be played on either November 22 or 23.

If successful against Salford, a 242-mile round trip to Shrewsbury, in the FA Cup second round, will cap the month off.

When asked about the potentially brutal run, McCann said: “It is what it is, there’s no point in worrying about it. We’ve got a tough game and a long away trip to Exeter, followed by the game Wednesday and then the Bristol Rovers game on Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to it, we’ve done it before albeit a little bit different with two homes games and one away but we will look to go and win all three.

“There’s no doubt about it, we’ll be away to Forest Green or Plymouth so we’re bracing ourselves for another long away tip but maybe lady luck will be on our side and we get the Chelsea Under 21s at home. To say anything at this stage though would just be speculation.”
