Many loyal Posh supporters face an increase of around 10% on this season’s prices, regardless of whether their favourite team is playing in the Championship or League One.

There are exceptions for younger fans as the price for under 18s has been frozen, while accompanied under 12s can watch Posh for free again.

And a poll conducted for the Peterborough Telegraph led to over thirds of those who replied to say the new prices were ‘fair’.

Posh co-owner Dr Jason Neale said: “We recognize that raising ticket prices is never news gratefully received by our fans.

“But in setting season ticket pricing for the 2020-2021 season we looked at comparable clubs to Peterborough within a one hour commute of London and tried to ensure that overall our pricing was not too inconsistent with our competitors. “We also had to consider (a) the value of the entertainment which we believe is of a very high standard and we want to continue to fund it; (b) the off pitch initiatives such as purchasing the Weston Homes Stadium from PCC, the long term vision of building a new stadium and substantially increased funding for the academy; (c) ensuring that under 12s can continue to attend games for free and (d) living within the Financial Fair Play rules.

“We think we have an excellent supporter group and I have personally experienced how wonderful they are. We grew season ticket take up by more than 400 last year and are confident this trend will continue.
