Pompey’s overall recent form is outstanding though with 13 wins in their last 16 competitive matches which includes a 2-0 home defeat by Premier League Arsenal in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday when several first-teamers were rested.

Posh and Portsmouth played out two huge matches last season with both teams winning away from home.

In September, 2018 it was a battle of the top two at London Road with both sides taking unbeaten records into the game, but it was Pompey who emerged victorious from a scrappy encounter 2-1 thanks to goals from Oliver Hawkins and Jamal Lowe, Matt Godden replied for Posh in the final minute.

But Posh turned the tables in a must-win game for both sides at Fratton Park in the final week of the season. Ivan Toney (2) and Lee Tomlin scored for Posh in a thrilling 3-2 success.

The teams have met nine times in Football League games at London Road with Portsmouth leading the series 3-2 with four draws.
